BUILDING SAFE SPACES: Young People's Experiences of Community Organisations
We developed six case studies of organisations/groups in Bogotá (Colombia) and Lima (Peru) that work with young people aged 15 to 24 in disadvantaged neighbourhoods. The case studies aimed to explore the different ways these organisations engage with and support the mental health and well-being of young people.
Online toolkits developed by arts organisations to support young people's mental health and wellbeing (only available in Spanish)
The Young Ambassadors Programme explored how the arts could contribute to supporting young people's mental health. People's Palace Projects alongside Fundación Crear Vale la Pena (Argentina), Fundación Nacional Batuta (Colombia), Teatro La Plaza (Peru) and nine young ambassadors reflected on and created works that promoted discussions about mental health.
During this process, we developed toolkits that included creative exercises designed to facilitate these conversations. The toolkits were an initiative associated with and inspired by the discussions of the OLA study.
The OLA Film | Walking Our Way (Trailer)
The OLA film is a dynamic and creative documentary that combines the lived experiences of our nine Young Ambassadors (YAs) from Colombia, Argentina and Peru. The filming process took place during the dissemination phase of the young ambassador’s programme, through the workshops and performances that enabled other young people to engage with the preliminary findings of the OLA study.
The film highlights how arts-based methodologies allow for nuanced and personal explorations of mental health and aims to engage young audiences and share strategies around mental health with more long-lasting impact than presenting data or written research publications.
The OLA book | Young People's Mental Health: A Challenge for Modern Societies
The OLA researchers from the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) have written a book that addresses a range of important topics affecting young people's mental health. These include quality of life, life events, coping strategies, the role of social media, substance use and gambling addiction. The book also covers prevention and health promotion strategies.
