The official Biltmore yearly Christmas ornament is one example. That cool mug that is microwave and dishwasher safe is another. The thing is, though, they have to start decorating the house and estate for Christmas in October, so they can run Christmas at Biltmore in November and December.
Day time tickets on a weekday are least expensive, and Candlelight Evening tickets on Fridays and Saturdays are the most expensive.
There is some overlap with the stable courtyard Christmas shop at the Biltmore House, but both stores have unique-to-them items. The pop-up shops have additional decorations and vintage-type toys. Those lots are a short walk to the house and gardens, but if you have mobility limitations a shuttle is available from April to October. Figuring out Biltmore’s admissions fees can be a dizzying process — tickets cover different areas of the Estate depending on the season, as well as which amenity level you choose, plus all the a la carte add ons, like tours, for additional purchase.
But the property was built by industrialists — of course the family has found a way to monetize Asheville’s own chateau. Access to the House, gardens, Antler Hill Village, and Winery can be had at any of the three “experience levels” that range from the Biltmore Experience to “enhanced” to “exclusive” options.
The annual pass also gets you free daytime admission for kids 16 and under. If you book a room at one of the three Biltmore estate hotels, you’ll get access to Biltmore gardens, Antler Hill Village, and the Winery for the duration of your stay. There are long flights of stairs to the second and third floors and basements, and only the first and second floors are accessible for those with mobility limitations.
That said, Biltmore does offer discounted admission to offset some of the house being out of reach. Antler Hill Village: This village provides a relaxing place for dining, shopping, and learning more about Biltmore history – a great stop after your house tour. It’s home to the Winery and Farm see below. Enjoy live entertainment on the Village Green. See the special exhibits that rotate at the Legacy, and tour the historic barn.

Sadly, Vanderbilt was able to enjoy his palatial summer home for less than twenty years before he died unexpectedly from appendicitis. His heirs did their best to keep the estate going through the the Roaring Twenties, Great Depression, and World War II, eventually opening it to the public and allowing it to operate as a museum rather than a private home. Over time, Vanderbilt’s widow Edith sold nearly 90, acres of land surrounding Biltmore to the Forest Service, contributing to the conservation of Pisgah National Forest.
Other attempts to increase the profitability of the estate included the introduction of French winemaster Philippe Jourdain to the vineyards at Biltmore, a throwback to the estate’s Loire Valley inspiration. There are a number different tours that showcase different aspects of the property, from the sprawling gardens to the servants’ quarters to even the rooftops with their views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Self-guided tours of the house are the most affordable, being included in estate admission, and give you a chance to take in dozens of points of interest — including our favorite, the two-lane bowling alley which sits in the basement along with a vast swiming pool and the house kitchen, which has its own rotisserie.
The outcry must have been loud enough, though, because they fairly quickly revised it to a clear bag only policy. Alternatively, lockers are available for a fee , located by the restrooms near the Stable Courtyard. The House tour is self-guided, but there are no plaques or exhibits inside. The audio guide provides all the history and funny anecdotes about life in a giant mansion, as well as points out all the unique features of each room.

Make up your mind! I know, but hear me out. The first tip was for those that want to budget for a splurge. The second is for those that want to splurge on another tour or a restaurant instead. The following hotels are also near the Biltmore Village area within 5 minutes from the estate entrance, but their affordability varies based on your rewards status:.
Note that the Asheville area hotels all get more expensive around holidays and during fall leaf peeping season in the Blue Ridge Mountains, but they will always be cheaper than staying on the estate.
Downtown Asheville is not far from the Biltmore Estate entrance, but hotels are always more expensive downtown. The Biltmore Park area and the Tunnel Road area are other hot-spots for hotels, but these are further out with drive time often delayed by traffic and not necessarily cheaper either. None of the eateries on the estate are cheap, but some are more affordable than others.
The cheaper sit down restaurants always book up before the expensive ones. The Biltmore Village area is a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places, so anything new built in the area has to blend in with the historic district.
Absolutely recommend trying one or two of the Biltmore restaurants! To make it easier on your wallet and your waistline, go for lunch. The menus are often similar, if not exactly the same, just with more reasonable portion sizes for lunch.
